Hi, my name is Brooke Larsen and I am excited to join the Northwest family this year. I am from Findlay, OH, and graduated from Ohio Northern University in 2014 where I majored in Forensic Biology with minors in chemistry and Spanish. I was also a Varsity letter winner in cross country and track at ONU. Go Bears! I received my Masters in Teaching - AYA Life Science and Chemistry Curriculum from Kent State University in 2015. I have been teaching science for 5 years and have recently implemented a new instructional teaching method called modeling into my chemistry and biology classes. This method has a heavy focus on hands-on learning and labs with minimal lecturing. It goes for depth of knowledge and developing critical thinking skills over memorizing and regurgitating information. Information is discussed during whiteboard meetings and students work together to develop meaning. It makes the classroom a dynamic, fun environment where teamwork is necessary, questions are essential, and failure is a good thing. We learn best from our mistakes! I hope to meet you all and become an essential part of the NW community!
